1950s Herman Ohme Minimalist Chess Set
Reproduction of the minimalist chess set design created by Herman Ohme in the 1950s in California. This complete chess set combines 4-inch Ebonized Boxwood chess pieces with a handcrafted Ebony and Boxwood chessboard, creating a distinctive Mid-Century modern aesthetic.
The chessmen feature a minimalist design with the darker pieces crafted in Ebonized Boxwood and the lighter pieces in Boxwood. Each chessman is specially weighted and finished with a felted base for a stable playing experience and added protection for the chessboard surface.
Minimalist Chess Pieces
The 4-inch King gives the set a substantial presence while maintaining the clean, understated character of the original minimalist design. The pieces are specially weighted and fitted with felted bases.
Handcrafted Ebony Chessboard
The bordered chessboard is crafted from Ebony Wood and Boxwood and features a smooth glossy finish. The 40 mm square size is designed to complement the included chess pieces and provide a balanced playing surface.
