1950s Soviet Latvian chess pieces are modeled after a popular Latvian design from the Soviet era and are inspired by the style associated with Soviet Grandmaster Mikhail Tal. The pieces feature unusually large Knights with their manes carved on one side.
Each chess piece is double weighted with an iron stud inside the base for added stability and handling. The pieces are expertly carved and feature green or red felt bases to help protect the chessboard surface during movement.
This set is available in two material variations: Golden Rosewood & Antiqued Boxwood and Ebonized Boxwood & Boxwood. The set includes 34 chess pieces and a plastic storage box. The chessboard is not included.
